A night to remember with Sue Blue at WIA
Last night I attended Women in Animation conversations with Sue Blu. Her list of accomplishments, complete with slide show and video (given by a very entertaining Amy Ulrich), was astonishing and heartfelt. A piece of dirt flew in my eye when I heard Sue's singing at the end. I went up to Amy to thank her and met her business partner, Kelly Jean. Lisa Biggs had told me about their company and 48 hours later I was meeting them in the flesh.
While standing in line waiting to meet Sue, I spoke to a video game director named Matty who graciously gave me specific tips for VG auditions that I had not heard before. All this happened because I saw a notification Rebecca Davis posted on Facebook about the event. Women empowering women. I almost didn't go yesterday because I had been home auditioning and the event was across town during rush hour--blah, blah, blah. All the excuses I make to myself when I'm scared of doing something different. I'm shy about meeting people in a new town but something made me go and I'm so glad I did. I was expecting a simple lecture but it was so much more than that. It was a roomful of creatives supporting each other, celebrating the work of an extraordinary talent.
